Message from the Head Teacher
Welcome to The Orchard Centre. We are a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) that offers a full-time provision for students in Key Stage 3 and 4 who require Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) support. We also welcome referrals for students with medical needs which result in difficulties accessing mainstream education. All students receive SEN support or have an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP).
We endeavour to improve the life chances of every young person who enters our Centre by providing a holistic approach to teaching and learning and celebrating success. Through personalised learning and meaningful interventions students have the opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and nurturing environment. Teachers and Teaching Assistants are well qualified and have experience of teaching in mainstream school as well as within specialist settings. The Orchard Centre has a range of classroom spaces and access to outdoor space. We have access to computer facilities and provide space where students can relax during break and lunchtimes e.g. bean bags.
On entry we will assess the student’s academic levels in English, Maths, Science and where appropriate other specific foundation subjects. In order to maximise a successful transition a member of staff works closely with the student to ensure a fully supportive and bespoke programme of integration is completed.
Students have access to a range of academic and vocational qualifications. We are supported by specialist Teachers and Teaching Assistants, Lawnswood Integrated Therapy Service, and other agencies such as CAMHS and Wolverhampton Connexions.
We are proud of the service that we provide at The Orchard Centre and hope that you will have a positive experience when working with us.
Ms J Blake
Head of The Orchard Centre
